Getting an early start, I started working at design and remodeling at 16 years old. My father was gone, leaving us in a largely unfinished house he had been building in his spare time

Chrysalis Award

Lazzell Design Works received the 2007 Regional Chrysalis Award for Best Home Theater Over $50,000. Lazzell's project was judged best in it's category for the north east region, which includes 15 states and Washington DC, by editors and writers of Better Homes & Gardens, Woman's Day, Southern Living and The American Institute of Building Design. In connection with the award, Lazzell Design Works was recognized in the June 2007 issue of Qualified Remodeler Magazine.

Remodeler of the Year

The Maryland Improvement Contractors Association presented Lazzell Design Works' president, John Uttenreither with the 2006 Remodeler of the Year Award for a finished basement entered in the residential interior category of its state wide competition.

1st Place National Master Design Award

Qualified Remodeler Magazine presented Lazzell Design Works with the 2005 National Master Design Award-first place in the residential interior category of its annual competition highlighting the nation's outstanding remodeling projects.

Lazzell Design Works and the project were also featured in the October 2005 issue of Qualified Remodeler Magazine. John Uttenreither and Jay King accepted the award.

Remodeler of the Year

The Maryland Improvement Contractors Association presented Lazzell Design Works with the 2005 Remodeler of the Year Award for a built-in aquarium entered in the residential specialty category.

In conjunction with the award, Lazzell Design Works and the project were featured in the April 2006 issue of Chesapeake Home Magazine. Jay King and John Uttenreither accepted the award.
